Listen to Your Body: What Your Food Cravings Mean
Pay attention to your body’s signals!
🙋♀️ Food cravings often mean your body is lacking certain nutrients, but they can also be related to your hormone balance or emotional state. It often helps to pay attention to your body’s signals.
🍨Sweets – Grabbing for candy in such situations only makes things worse because it causes the body to produce insulin, which leads to a drop in sugar. Instead it is recommended to eat foods rich in chromium, such as beef, chicken, carrots, potatoes, broccoli and asparagus, whole grains and eggs.
🍩 Chocolate – Chocolate is a combination of fats and sugars (carbohydrates) but it also contains significant vitamins and minerals. So your body might be asking for magnesium, chromium, or B vitamins+ as well as essential fats. Try 90% chocolate or 100% cacao. Buy a small bar, or better still try cacao nibs which are pure chocolate. Raw chocolate can be useful because it has more minerals than normal chocolate. Chocolate cravings can indicate a need for happy hormones like serotonin.
🥤Soda – Craving a can of coke or another fizzy drink? While this probably means that you are thirsty, and therefore should be reaching for a glass of water instead, a new theory suggests that there could be another reason you are yearning for a carbonated beverage – low levels of calcium.
🍸Alcohol – Protein is essential for the body of any living organism. Your body uses protein to build cells for various tissues and organs. By eating a diet rich in protein, you enjoy a better mood and your hunger pangs are stabilized. This will help in reducing alcohol cravings and speed up the recovery process. In addition, protein-rich foods such as tuna, sardines, poultry, eggs or milk also enhance the function of your immune system. This helps your body fight with the damaging agents of alcohol.
